South Asian Voices: Diwali celebration

To celebrate Diwali, Wellington City Libraries and The Cuba Press have brought together some of Aotearoa’s finest South Asian writers to talk about their work. From lauded legends to emerging writers, these nights are bound to be entertaining, stimulating and fabulous!

These events are happening at both Newtown and Johnsonville Libraries. For more information and to secure your free ticket, select your preferred library below.

We know it can be scary to start learning a new language and that te reo Māori classes fill up quickly in Wellington, so we are pleased to announce that we have free, friendly classes Monday evenings that are available for bookings now.

Youth Poetry Workshops

Poetry workshops for former refugee and migrant students aged 14-16 years.
Special guest poets and hip hop performers will visit!

In some cases, transport provided from school to the library.
Halal and vegetarian food is provided.
These workshops will help your teenagers with English and build their confidence!

Halloween: Booooks and Treats! + Sbooktacular Celebrations
a collection of spooky but cute halloween illustrations: a bat, a ghost, a pumpkin, some mushrooms and a spirder web.
Dress up in your favourite costume and join us for a spooooktacular Halloween spell!

There will be (not so) scary stories, mask making and crafts, plus a ghostly scavenger hunt in the library! Recommended for tamariki aged 5-12 with their caregivers. Registration is required as there are limited numbers.

Join us at He Matapihi Molesworth Library for our sbooktacular celebration of all things supernatural!

Come along in your best book-related or fantastical costume and take part in a one-off morning of fun, which will include a story time, Halloween-themed crafts, face-painting, and a spooky scavenger hunt.

Recommended for ages 4 to 400! Please note - registration is required for this event.

'Wild Weather' Author Talk by MetService Expert Lisa Murray

Cyclones, heatwaves, snow and drought... as a long, narrow group of islands Aotearoa New Zealand has always found itself at the mercy of wild weather, and that’s before accounting for the mounting impacts of climate change.

Meteorologist Lisa Murray, MetService NZ’s Head of Weather Communication, is co-author of the new book 'New Zealand’s Wild Weather' and will present an invigorating hour delving into the fascinating facts behind some of this country’s most dramatic weather.
